Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and for each Governor.

Chair of Governors

Keith Howells

Parent Governor

"My first introduction to Ravensdale Infant & Nursery School was in 2011 when my son started in the Nursery. He absolutely loved his time in the school and I was keen to get involved in some capacity. I’m now very proud to be a Governor at our school and I am pleased to be able to use my 20 years of Engineering and Leadership experience to support the Board of Governors and the wider school in achieving its aims. I’m continually impressed by the professionalism and dedication of all of the staff and the environment that they create for the children. Now my daughter attends the school and she can’t wait to get there in the morning, which is lovely to see and a true testament to the efforts of everyone involved."

Vice Chair of Governors

Alun Rowlands

Co-Opted Governor

Responsibilities: Health and Safety, Safer Recruitment, Finance and Personnel Committee

"I am a volunteer Associate Priest at St. John's and All Saints churches. My family and I have lived in Mickleover for 35 years and my three children all spent their Infant and Junior school years at the Ravensdale Schools. I now have five grandchildren of school age although not at Ravensdale.

My professional career was in management positions for various businesses and I now aim to bring these skills to the school through the Governing Body.

I am passionate in assisting the staff in our joint aim of continually improving our school for your children's education and facilitating important supportive links to the local community."

Lorna Blanchenot

Headteacher

I have been a teacher for 27 years and have worked in many schools, including the largest British International School in Thailand. I have a range of experience throughout the Primary phase having taught all year groups from Nursery to Year 6 during my teaching career. I have held a variety of leadership roles since 1995, now being very proud to be the Head Teacher of our school since November 2017. Part of my role as a Governor is to ensure the Full Governing Board have a clear understanding of the ways in which we are striving to improve the academic, social and everyday lives of all the children who pass through our doors.

Clare Penter

Co-Opted Governor

Responsibilities: Safeguarding and Early Years

"For the past 10 years I have managed Bramblebrook Pre-School, situated in St  John’s Church in Mickleover. As an Early Years Practitioner I have a thorough understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and hope that I can offer support to the foundation stage team here at Ravensdale Infant school. My passion is supporting children’s speech, language and communication skills which I believe to be fundamental to children’s lifelong learning. I am also part of the Derby City Early Years Safeguarding Champions Team which provide support and training to early years settings within Derby City. I hope that my skills will support the school on their journey to Outstanding."

Judith Witcomb

Co-Opted Governor

Responsibilities: SEND, Link Training and Finance and Personnel Committee

"I was a teacher of English for speakers of other languages and I worked for Derby Adult Learning Service. Now I still work in the service but as a support worker assisting students with their learning. My family and I have lived in Mickleover for 38 years and both our children went to Ravensdale schools. During their childhood I was a Governor at Ravensdale Juniors and my husband was Governor at the Infants. I am a practical person and enjoy being of practical help in school doing things like hearing readers and helping with school trips. I am SEN Governor and work closely with staff and the SENCO on this subject. I hope I can be a continued support to the staff and as a Governor safeguard the education of the children in school."

Anthony Brown

Parent Governor

Responsibilities: Finance and Personnel Committee

Rachael Taylor

Parent Governor

Responsibilities: Community Links

"Having lived in Mickleover for most of my life and attended Ravensdale Infant School myself, I have a real passion for the school, it’s pupils and role in the wider community.
Now as a proud Parent Governor with two children of my own attending the school, I love the opportunity to use my skills gained as a former Global Marketing and Communications Manager, and now as a Child Sleep Consultant, to support the school in achieving its goals.

I truly believe that children deserve the opportunity to be educated in a supportive and encouraging environment that enables them to be confident, inquisitive and happy learners. It is fantastic to see first-hand the hard work that goes in to creating this environment at Ravensdale."

Sue Wall

Local Authority Governor

Responsibilities: Pupil Premium

"During my career I worked in higher education both in England and in many other countries particularly in mainland Europe and Asia. However, no-one can study for a degree if they can’t read or write – and over time I became increasingly aware that a good, and happy, start in education is essential to later success in life. I am very committed to helping Ravensdale Infants – the staff, the children and their families and friends – and everything I have learned during my first year as governor has only added to my enthusiasm. In particular, I hope that my experience working in many different countries and cultures, will benefit the school."

Fasar Ali

Parent Governor

"My family and I have been residents in Mickleover for the last 5 years and my eldest son attends Ravensdale Infant and Nursery School.

I am a Programme Manager by profession with 10 years’ experience in the energy industry. I have responsibility for managing the delivery Technical and Commercial activities for Power Stations in the UK, Mainland Europe, the Middle East and Russia.

In 2017, I was invited by Nottingham Business School to join the Alumni Fellowship Programme which I proudly accepted. Since doing so, I have been mentoring an international MBA student through year 1 of her studies and also the transition into her year in industry placement.

My aim is to bring the skills, knowledge and experience I have gained over these years to support the school in fulfilling its aspirations and provide the best platform possible for children to learn, develop and grow."

Lynsey Moore

Staff Governor

Responsibilities: Early Years

"I moved to Mickleover from Scotland in February 2010 and my eldest daughter started at Ravensdale Infant and Nursery School in September of the same year. Initially I volunteered to read with children at the school and within a very short space of time I began working at the school as a Teaching Assistant. During my first 3 years at the school I worked in Years 1 and 2 and for the last three years I have worked in Reception. My youngest daughter now attends the school in Reception Year. I am very passionate about helping children to be the best they can possibly be and as a parent, employee and governor I’m fortunate to be able to offer a number of different perspectives on how we can best achieve that. Over the years I have seen the school continue to thrive and I am very proud to be part of that."
